Today, enhancing value and the bottom line also often means improving the ESG aspects of a business. FGV is committed to conducting business responsibly, which we define as the integration of ESG considerations throughout our business processes. We believe that the thoughtful management of ESG issues is smart business and see it as an essential part of long-term success in a rapidly changing world. Companies that carefully manage ESG risks and opportunities today should be better positioned in the future as diminishing resources, changing consumer demands, and increased regulation are expected to pose greater challenges. To be most effective, ESG initiatives should be seen as best practices for operational excellence. Therefore, FGV focuses on the areas where we believe there to be a social or environmental benefit, as well as a business benefit. It is important that our efforts make sense for the companies in which we invest, their communities, and our Stakeholders, including our investment partners. Just as in other aspects of business, the process of understanding and better managing ESG issues is one that we must continually work hard to improve. As such, we work diligently to ensure that difficult situations are discussed thoughtfully with our network of internal and external partners, while seeking to act in the best long-term interests of our beneficiaries.
